Reds Of Stage And Screen: Harry Potter's Sidekick Popular Ginger Rupert Grint Is Grown Up In Provocative New Films

After having received an email from a GHM supporter and zealous fan of Rupert Grint's, we realized it appears as if we've somehow neglected to cover the young actor - one of the world's favorite contemporary redheads. Seems unlikely that a site devoted to redheaded men would have overlooked someone as noteworthy as Grint. That was not our intention and the email only further corroborated for us that now is indeed the time to post about him. We've been waiting for the right opportunity and it looks like this is it. It seems that the summer of 2009 may belong to Rupert Grint.

The ginger actor is endeared to the masses from his appearances in the Harry Potter magical franchise of films where he plays Ron Weasley alongside Daniel Radcliffe.

The newest movie "Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince" opens July 15th. With a flurry of activity, press coverage, appearances and photo ops, Grint (much to the pleasure of his legion of fans) is seemingly everywhere.

Among his promo appearances, he's scheduled for Live with Regis and Kelly on July 9th and was recently spotted at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix looking notably buffer than ever before.

Apparently Grint has gone from boy wizard to, dare we say, sexed-up cover boy. He's appeared in a barrage of magazines including Rolling Stone who named him "Hot Sidekick" of the year. He also had 20 pages and the cover of BLAG magazine plus a spread for Empire in which he states he is proud to represent "the gingers".

Most notably, besides the Potter film, he has two other perhaps more experimental movies coming out this year, the racy "Cherrybomb" and provocative "Wild Target" which show that the flame-haired 21 year-old has gone from freckle-faced sidekick to chisel-chopped leading man.

He's been promoting "Cherrybomb" in which fans will be pleased to know he gets his "kit" off. The film follows three teens who embark on a debauched weekend of drink, drugs, sex and theft resulting in dire consequences. Not exactly bedknobs and broomsticks, it appears.

The movie is having trouble getting a distributor because it is thought that Grint may not have enough fans to carry it let alone ones who are of age to see an R-rated movie with sex, drugs, and violence. Could they possibly be more wrong?

The Little Film Company and Grint's fansite are working together to get as many signatures as possible in hopes of showing the distributors there is substantial interest in the movie. Who doesn't want to see the newly buff redhead in the buff. Grint has a huge base of loyal, even fanatical supporters no doubt many of whom are gingerlovers.

While he has been the perennial sidekick to the Potter character, he is often overlooked in deference to the ever popular Radcliffe. But we have to wonder what's in the water on the sets of the successful series of films since Grint is now dropping trou after Radcliffe did also for his onstage role in "Equus".

We can only encourage Grint's efforts to break out on his own, so to speak. He's had to start imagining life outside of Hogwarts since there are only two more Potter films to come. "I don't quite feel 21. I guess I still think I'm 16." Yet that rabid fan base of which we speak — fantastically there are countless blogs devoted to his "ginger" beauty — can't wait for him to grow up and neither can we. He seems to be doing a pretty good job of it so far by the looks of it...
